Car spark plug service

You might assume that if your vehicle has starting troubles, the reason is the battery. Well, this is not always the case! Old or damaged spark plug can have negative effects on the performance of your car. Indeed, spark plugs not only provide power to the engine as key elements of the combustion process, but they also ensure the performance, efficiency, and emission levels of the car engine.

How can a spark plug issue be identified?

There are several warnings that may catch your attention. If the spark plugs are worn, the engine light will come on in the dashboard. If the fuel efficiency drops by 20-30%, it could mean that the spark plug is on its last leg. If your car is not as responsive as usual, especially when trying to accelerate, it could be because of worn spark plugs.

Our advice

How often should you change spark plugs?

Given that the owner’s manual lists the exact mileage for replacing and depending on the frequency of driving under severe conditions, such as stop-and-go traffic, towing heavy loads, or driving in extreme temperatures, we recommend replacing:
  • copper spark plugs every 30.000 miles
  • platinum spark plugs every 800.000 miles
  • iridium spark plugs every 100.000 miles

If you suspect a malfunctioning of your spark plug, go to a MOTRIO workshop closest to you.
